Core Life Skills
Discover Your Build
This lesson helps students understand how they naturally approach tasks, problems, and pressure. They create a Build Profile Card they can use in future lessons.
What you will learn
- Identify what you reach for first when a situation moves faster than your plan.
- Understand why the same first move can look smart in one setting and clumsy in another.
- Compare more than one way to approach a problem, and spot one route that feels natural and one worth stretching.
- Combine the clues from the earlier chapters into a short, specific, revisable profile card.
What happens in this lesson
Chapter 1: Instinct Snapshot
Identify what you reach for first when a situation moves faster than your plan.
What you make: A saved first-move clue with one strength, one friction, and one move worth practising.
Chapter 2: Strengths In Context
Understand why the same first move can look smart in one setting and clumsy in another.
What you make: A saved context-strength map showing where the learner's move fits best and where it struggles.
Chapter 3: Try It Three Ways
Compare more than one way to approach a problem, and spot one route that feels natural and one worth stretching.
What you make: A saved route-fit clue naming one natural route and one stretch route.
Chapter 4: Build Profile Card
Combine the clues from the earlier chapters into a short, specific, revisable profile card.
What you make: A completed Build Profile Card with five short fields, grounded in the learner's own evidence.
Chapter 5: Build Moves In A Team
Use your build clues to choose a first move that fits a group task, not just your own instinct.
What you make: A team-fit action plan naming one move to lead with, one move to avoid, and one sentence to use in the moment.
Chapter 6: When Your Card Is Wrong
Evaluate the limits of a Build Profile Card and revise it using new evidence.
What you make: A revised card note that names one outdated clue, one new pattern, and one reason the change matters.
Key terms in this lesson
Build Profile Card
A small card with five lines that captures how you tend to think and act, so you can use it before real decisions.
Clue, not label
Treat what you notice about yourself as useful information that may change, not a permanent description of who you are.
Context Fit
Whether the same action helps or hurts depends on the situation around it.
Evidence based, not aspirational
Build your view of yourself from things you actually did, not from the version of yourself you wish you were.
First Move
The way you tend to react first when something surprising or stressful happens.
Natural route and stretch route
The way of thinking you reach for first, plus a second one you can practise for when the first one stalls.
React, Wait, Watch, Ask
Four common ways people handle a surprising moment. None of them is always the right one.
Three Routes
Three different ways to work through a problem. Most people prefer one but can practise the others.
