What happens in this lesson

1. Chapter 1: Get It Out Of Your Head

   Understand that ideas stay vague and hard to improve while they live only in your head, and that making them visible even roughly produces much better thinking.

   What you make: A saved visibility note describing one idea the student has been carrying in their head and explaining why making it visible would produce better thinking than keeping it inside.

2. Chapter 2: The Rough Sketch

   Learn to draw a fast rough sketch of an idea in under 5 minutes without worrying about art skill, and understand why rough is a feature and not a bug.

   What you make: A saved rough sketch note describing what the student drew and how long it took, with at least two things they learned from the sketching process.

3. Chapter 3: Build A Simple Prototype

   Build a simple paper or digital prototype that others can react to without you having to explain it, and understand why getting to something testable is the key next step after sketching.

   What you make: A saved prototype plan describing how the student would build a simple physical or digital prototype of their idea in under 30 minutes with common materials.

4. Chapter 4: Your First Sketch

   Combine the visibility mindset, rough sketching skills, and prototype planning into a First Sketch document for one real idea the student cares about.

   What you make: A saved First Sketch including the idea description, a rough visible version (sketch or prototype plan), and at least one specific thing the student will change in the next version.

5. Chapter 5: Choose The Right Kind Of Visible

   Evaluate which visible format best fits different ideas and constraints, and justify the choice based on what the sketch or prototype needs to reveal.

   What you make: A saved format-choice brief for one real idea, explaining which visible format to use first, why it fits the idea, and what it would reveal that other formats would miss.
